Chikmagalur is one of the tourist destinations in Karnataka and it can be easily reached from the state capital Bangalore and National Highway 173 passes through the town. Its a picturesque view attracts tourists like adventure lovers, nature lovers and trekkers. KSRTC buses from Bangalore, Hassan, Mangalore are available to Chikmagalur. You can hire a city cab or jeep to visit the important places in Chikmagalur. Chikmagalur is like ooty or kodaikanal and it attracts tourists both in summer and winter. The mist covered hills as well as cool breeze add to the splendor of the sight.

First time I visited here as my weekend getaway to Chikmagalur in 2011 and second time with my trekking friends in 2014 through "Sarpadhari" to mullayanagiri. Through my personal experience and my research about sightseeing places in Chikmagalur, here I have listed some of the important places to visit in Chikmagalur.

1) Mullayanagiri

One of the tourist attractions in Chikmagalur which is 16 Km from Chikmagalur town or bus stand. You can commute in a car or jeep till Sheethalagiri temple and it is recommended to walk to Mullayanagiri as the roads are too narrow here. There is a small temple on top of the hill and a small cave next to it.

For trekking to Mullayanagiri, there is a narrow trekking path called "Sarpadhari". It may take 3 to 4 hours to reach on top of Mullayanagiri, but, you need to take permission to be taken by forest department. September to February is a good time for visiting the place. When we visited this place in 2014, tigers were sighted in a coffee plantation near Mullayanagiri. It is always recommended to check with concerned officals before you start trekking or sightseeing in these areas.

2) View Point

View point is located between Mullayanagiri and Kemmangundi. It gives you a view of Mullayanagiri and Sheethalagiri hills. 11 Kms ahead from here you can visit Kemmangundi.
