Bekal Fort in Kasaragod district of Kerala

Bekal Fort is one of the historic Fort in Kasaragod district of Kerala. My home town Kanhangad is just 15 to 30 minutes away and we love to take our family and friends to this place for a memorable evening. Bekal Fort can be easily reached via KSRTC and Private buses from Kasaragod and Kanhangad. Bekal Fort is main attraction for film shootings, marriage outdoor shooting, family picnic etc. The fort is more than 300 year old and it was an important military station of Tipu Sultan. The fort is built by Shivappa Nayaka of Ikkeri dynasty, popularly known as Keladi Shivappa Nayaka, was a notable ruler of the Keladi Nayaka Kingdom. The fort gives super view of the Arabian Sea.

Whenever my friends ask about this fort, I used to say "Have you seen Bombay movie Uyire Uyire Song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scEISjFAPFk) featuring Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala. It gives you superb view of the fort and beach.

Bekal Fort has one small Anjaneya Temple, situated at the entrance of Bekal fort. 'Vada-mala' Garland made of Urud dhal famous South Indian breakfast is famous offering to god hanuman here. But, you need to contact temple representative before for pre-booking.

How to Reach here?

Bekal Fort can be easily reached via KSRTC and Private buses from Kasaragod and Kanhangad.
Trains are available on Mangalore-Palakkad line and nearest railway stations are Kasaragod and Kanhangad for express trains. Bekal is the nearest railway station for local passenger trains.
Nearest airports at Mangalore and Calicut. But, you need to catch train or buses to reach from Mangalore and Calicut.

Bekal Fort Timing

You can visit the fort any time between 10 am to 6 pm. There will be an entrance fee of Rs 5 per head and Rs 25 to 50 for Still cameras or Moving Cameras. Saturday is good time for offering prayers to Anjaneya Temple. But, you can visit any day to the temple. Nominal vehicle parking fees would also be collected.

Bekal Park

Bekal Resorts Development Corporation Limited (BRDC) has developed Bekal park at a distance of 1 Km from Bekal fort. Nominal vehicle parking fees would also be collected.
